WA.gov FAQ's

What is a WA.gov account?

WA.gov accounts are a new way to log in to online state services. In addition to your online GET account, your WA.gov account will get you to the same services you have accessed via Secure Access Washington (SAW). After you set up your account, you’ll find new features that you can customize to make it easier for you to access other services. Your new account is also more secure and personalized.

You may have one or more SAW accounts with User IDs that you or an employer created in order to access services like tax services from Department of Revenue, licensing services from Department of Licensing and others.

What is changing for me?

On September 15, when you log in to your online GET account, you’ll see a new login screen with a fresh look to help you create a new WA.gov account. You may be prompted to set up additional security features, like two-step verification.

What isn’t changing?

Your GET account information, program details, and other account data with WA529 will stay the same. Once you log in, your online GET account experience will be unchanged.

When will this happen?

The new login screen will go live on September 15. If you try to log in to your online GET account on or after that date, you’ll be prompted to set up a new WA.gov account.

Why is my login changing?

Washington State is upgrading to a modern login service called WA.gov accounts. This change makes your access to state services more secure and consistent across multiple Washington state services.

Not all state agency services are changing to WA.gov at the same time so you may need to keep using SAW for some services. WA529 is one of the earliest to make the change for users, and we want to help make it a smooth experience for you.

Do I have to do anything?

No action is needed until you sign in on or after September 15. At that time, will need to follow the prompts to set up a WA.gov account.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your data is protected with strong security measures in compliance with state and federal privacy standards.

What are the password requirements?

You will use an email as your username and will need to create a password that meets this complexity:

  • No more than 2 identical characters in a row
  • Must have one special character (!@#$%^&*)
  • Must include lowercase (a-z), upper case (A-Z) and a number (0-9)
  • Must be at least 10 characters in length
  • (not relevant for first-time password creation) Must not be the same as the last 10 passwords created
  • Must not contain personal data such as first name, last name or email prefix

Who do I contact if I have problems logging in?

If you run into trouble, reach out to the GET Contact Center at 800-955-2318 or getinfo@wsac.wa.gov.
