Use the account to cover qualified higher education expenses at any eligible institution.

Step 1: Open an account

  • Account owner’s name, address, and Social Security number
  • Beneficiary’s name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth

Step 2: Contribute to an account

GET works by offering “units” for purchase toward future tuition. Each contribution to your GET account accumulates these units. Start early to save more! Growth is tax-free as long as the funds are used for qualified higher education expenses.

100 units purchased today will cover one year of resident undergraduate tuition and fees at Washington’s highest-priced public university in the future, guaranteed.

You can buy Lump Sum units in whole or partial amounts, up to 800 units per student. The minimum contribution is $25.

The GET 2024-25 enrollment period is open with a unit purchase price of $123.76.

Step 3: Use an account

After your child graduates from high school, you can use your units at nearly any public or private college, university, or technical school in the U.S., as well as some apprenticeships and selected colleges and institutions worldwide. An institution is eligible if it participates in federal financial aid programs through the U.S. Department of Education.

The gift of education

The gift of education

GET account owners can invite family and friends to make online gift contributions in GET’s secure portal by sending a unique link to their student beneficiary. Contributions towards a child’s 529 education savings account make the perfect gift for holidays, special occasions, birthdays, baby showers, and important milestones.
